Well those nasty people over at McMillan forced me to buy one of their internet special stocks for my M70. So I've got a new project for the spring, getting my rifle's action and barrel bedded into the new stock. I've glass bedded two rifles before, but they were both Rugers (with their peculiarities) and mounted back into the same stock they had wore before. Any tips and tricks for McMillan and/or Winchesters would be greatly appreciated.

Two questions so far:

1. The barrel is slightly off center in the barrel channel when placed in the stock and the action screws snugged up. I'm assuming that I need to do a little bit of inletting work to make sure it's perfectly centered before I start anything else. Some inletting black, and sandpaper? Maybe a pair of stockmakers screws?

2. Does the unfinished fiberglass inside the stock need any prep work (like roughening) for the glass?

That's what I've got right now, but all comments are welcomed. When I get it finished I'll fire up the digi-cam and post a pic or two.

Thanks - JohnDog
