I'm not advocating anything here, but please discuss the real threat of terrorism and living in a state that doesn't honor the 2nd Amendment. Hopefully this is a good topic.

Who's going to be the first to say "SOL"?

Hmmm
Yesterday, a wiser man than I offered these words of wisdom (we were discussing the Barrett .50/LAPD issue)

"Once again, the intended disarmament of law-abiding U.S. civilians is disguised as an "anti-terror" initiative ... at precisely the same time our Department of Homeland Defense is officially advising us that that "Americans must take some responsibility for defending themselves." With what -- spitballs and dirty looks?" V.S.

That about sums it up.

I guess you might have to break the law to survive. Think "Jews in Germany, 1935-1945", & What should they have done?

Or not. Your choice.

A good old .30-30 lever action, being very American and politically correct would fit into a car trunk, a guitar case, etc. Shouldn't scare the sheep or alert the boys in blue. If defending yourself from Terror types is the question.

If its how do you thwart the legal foll-de-rall, you don't. They never un-do something like that unless a coup d'etat (what does that really mean and did I spell it right?) occurs and the dog on top of the pile is you.

May God bless you cause the Great Garden state could care less.

Adios

Most terrorism is unaffected by whether any state is pro- or con- on the 2nd Amendment. The Maryland Murderers were pretty much an anomaly insofar as terrorism.

Most terrorism is committed by bomb; possibly, now, bugs or chemicals. Guns aren't used; by and large, guns won't protect.

Where the 2nd Amendment comes into play has more to do with secondary effects resulting from terrorism. That is, some local area breakdown and major public disturbances stemming from that. During a riot, self-efense is a necessity.

No offense, but I'm not really clear what you are asking.

Are you asking whether states that do not honor the 2A are at greater risk for terrorist attacks?

Anyway, I'll post my $.02 anyway....

I don't think terrrorists would take something like that into account. They are ready and fully willing to die for their cause. (And BOY, would I LOOOOOVE to help them!!! :D )

I think they pick targets based on size and significance. (Pentagon, etc.)

I think that attacks we dream up like some terrorists walking into a crowded mall/theater/stadium with AK's, while interesting to ponder, and they may help us justify buying more guns and carrying more guns and ammo, just aren't very probable.

Though I very well may be wrong.

Regardless, I think the answer to your question (well, at least to what I think your question is) is obvious: If all Americans were allowed to defend themselves EVERYWHERE as they SHOULD be, 9/11 probably would have been no more than a mid-air ventilation of 19 dirtbags. (As well as a wake-up call for the USA)

If a terrorist(s) start shooting up a mall or whatever in a state like NJ or MD, well, S.O.L. baby.

Try that in TX, and its a whole different story! :D

My personal take on it, is that restriction of my Second Amendment rights IS terrorism.

Sounds about right to me. Who defines what a terrorist is? Randy Weaver may have a different answer than Charlie Schumer. Terrorists can come in all kinds of uniforms, sometimes even our own. If someone points a gun at you, I dont think they are your friend, or there to help you.

Most of you are missing the point. All you have to do is look at what has happened in Israel.

There, the weapon of choice are suicide bombers. The worse thing that a suicide bomber can do is die before they take others with them. There have been stories about Israeli cops and soldiers, and even a woman that was able to stop a suicide bomber from taking others with them, by shooting them.

Anklepocket, I hereby issue you an official State of N.J. SHTF CCW permit. It looks just like mine. Use it in good health. ;)

Seriously, I would love to have a permit for N.J. but I have not been smart enough, lucky enough or connected enough to get one. I will rely on my SHTF permit, if I need to, though.

What's SOL, anyway?

Gun ownership restricts the most likely cause of wide spread terrorism in the U.S.. An unchecked political system(politicians) that believe they are no longer accountable to citizens.

I was thinking something similar the other day during a fairly long commute home. At some point, common folk (not the gov't & not the military) will have to step up again and prevent another terrorist act on US soil.

NeverAgain26,
You need to cross the river and come live in the United States. :)

Art's right. But if I should happen to have a chance to shoot a terrorist at a time when I'm armed, I intend to seize the day.

Hondo, what on earth are you talking about? How would honoring the 2nd Amendment cause any kind of damage in the Middle East?

*snort*

You know what MY opinion is...

SOL, in New Jersey, at least. The greasy governor McGreedy will get protection while the rest of us fry in cyanide.
