I bought a used Savage bolt action in .222 with a Simmons 3x9x50. I don't know which model the Simmons is, other than the measurements mentioned; there are no other markings on the scope. It's an accurate package, but there is one problem.

The reticle is out of focus. When shooting, I can't see the reticle clearly, I just look beyond it at the target. At first I thought it was my eyeglasses; I have progressive bifocal lenses and I thought I needed to tilt my head more.

Anyway, my question is, is there a way to adjust the scope so the reticle is in focus? I would think so, but I don't want to break it. I know Simmons aren't the best scopes on the market, but it came with the rifle, is quite clear, and the .222 doesn't kick much so it shouldn't damage the scope. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't know about that specific model of scope, but:
The rear eyepiece is threaded and you screw it in & out to focus the reticule on most scopes.

Do Not stare through it while trying to adjust it though.

Your eye will try to accommodate it faster then you can adjust it.

Make an adjustment, then bring the rifle up and look through the scope at the clear blue sky.

Keep doing that until you find the sweet spot where the reticule is clear as soon as you bring it up to your eye.

Thanks RC. That may be the problem. The eyepiece adjusts, but I was looking through it at the time. The next clear day I'll go out and try without looking through the scope.

Thanks again.
