At first I wasn't a big fan of these kinds of grips, however the past couple years I've become a huge fan. I would love to see some pics of revolvers wearing either Stag or American Elk.
I also have some questions. I have two knives with stag grips but one is a fixed blade knife so I don't really take it out (can't carry fixed blade knives in MD) and the Puma pocket knife is only a few weeks old so I don't know yet how durable this material is.
I am thinking my Taurus 85 would look really good with these grips. However, when in a state where I can carry it will be my main carry gun. How durable have you found your Stag or American Elk grips to be? Would you use them on a "working" gun or stick with the larger target guns? If anyone has both Elk and Stag grips on revolvers can you tell me if one is stronger than the other?
I'm also thinking it might look great on my Colt 1860 Army clone, my S&W M19, S&W M685 and S&W M57. Basically, all my blue revolvers might end up getting them eventually. I'm not as sure how it will look on stainless. If anyone has pics of Stag or Elk on a stainless (esp. a matte stainless) revolver I'd really love to see that, maybe even my S&W 65LS may get some.
I do like the look of Stag a bit more, but it can't be obtained anymore (I'm not sure if India has banned the harvest of it or only the export of it) so all the stock of Stag is older stock. Thus, as time goes on the quality won't be what it used to be, and the cost is getting close to prohibitive. So, I am leaning towards going with the American Elk.
