Hallo everyone!
I have a factory-new Savage 12 VLP with a circular gouge in the chamber where the cartridge shoulder rests. We are not through with it, but maybe Savage refuses to repair it since I live in Germany and I imported the gun. Sending it back on my costs is probably more expensive than having the chamber reworked. BTW: The gouge causes high pressure when firing, the primers are blown out of the cartridge.
Can a gunsmith set the chamber deeper and then shorten the barrel on the chamber-side? If not, I need a new barrel for a factory-new rifle...
thanks,

The way that the Savage action is designed, the headspace is determined by how far you screw the barrel down when you tighten the barrel nut. Thus, if you decide to try and ream the chamber deeper, it's possible that you may not need to cut the barrel down since all you may need to do is screw the barrel down farther and then tighten the barrel nut.

PRAISE Savage!
I can have my gun repaired in Germany on their costs! Big service for a small price...
