Howdy,
First post here and I hope I got the right forum. I have just become the owner of a Savage 110 (30-06) package rifle. Rifle has 5 rounds through it and the price was less than half of the new retail price. As it was I gave the young gent $50.00 more than he was asking. The rifle came with the standard Simmons 3-9x32. I have two brand new, in the box, Tasco 3-9x40 World class scopes in the closet. I have never used Tasco scopes and have never used Simmons scopes. I sorta stumbled onto this, but research tells me that the Savage is capable of being quite accurate. Here is the Question: Which is the better scope?
If the rifle proves, I have no problem putting a Burris or Leopold on it. I'm just curious about the start of a new adventure. All input welcomed.

IMHO Simmons are built better than comparable Tascos. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it too much since all three of your scopes are nearly the same in size and quality. You may want to do a dawn or dusk test and see if the 40mm objective has an edge over the 32mm...it should...but I still might be tempted to leave the Simmons on since they're more durable than the Tasco in my experience. I would just shoot the heck outta it right now and if you like the gun, buy a scope like a Leupold VX-I or VX-II or a Weaver Grand Slam series.

My advice is pretty easy... if the Busnhell on the rifle makes you happy, then stick with it. In general, I agree that if comparing all the Bushnells I've looked through to all the Tascos I've ever looked through, the Bushnells edge out the Tascos. I've never shot one of the Savage combo packages but looking through the scope out the front door of the shop, the scope seems like an extremely economical one. The Tasco World Class scopes vary a lot from model to model. I've had a couple of them in 6-24x40 and another similar in 6-24x44. They were very decent scopes for the price.

WARNING!!! THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTS YOU BREAK ONE OF THE SAFETY RULES!!!

Only way to tell is to try them both out. Without getting into a whole lot of technical jargon, here's what I suggest. On a nice clear bright sunny day, look through the scope on the rifle for two or three minutes. Look at a variety of things... look at the grass, look at some leaves in the trees, try to pick out one particular leaf, look at a bird on a telephone pole. Now, do the same with the Tasco. Matter of fact, look through both Tascos as one might be better optically than the other. It will be a bit shakier as you are just holding the scope. Look at the same things and see if there is an immediate difference going from the Bushnell to the Tasco. After looking through the Tasco for a bit, go back to the Bushnell. Use which ever is brighter and clearer. If there's not an immediate difference, just use the Bushnell and don't sweat it.

If you go to gunshows etc... one scope to try to look out for are the older Weavers. K3s and K4s are very nice for the price if you get one for $50 or so. Also, they made a CV10 2-10x32... I've seen them for around $75. At that price point, it would be pretty tough to beat.

Good luck. Let us know how she shoots.
