Rifle twist rate?

Hello everyone. I would like your opinion on this issue. These two rifles I have been looking at are both in .308 caliber but they have different barrel lengths and twist rate. The first has a rate of 1:12 with a 22 inch barrel. The second 1:10 with 24 inch barrel. Do you think this will make much of a difference in accuracy or not? Thanks

Do you plan on hunting or target use, or probably both. Your use will determine your choice, I would think.
Longer barrel with a faster twist will handle the longer heavier bullets better, but the 22" will be a little handier and should work for up to at least the 175gr bullets.

Yes, I will probably use the rifle more for hunting but is 2" added to a barrel really make it less handier? I mean I would like as much accuracy as possible but I'm not really sure how much the accuracy will differ between these two rifles. Thanks

The 1 in 10 twist is better for 165 grain and heavier bullets. The 1 in 12 is best for 130- to 155 grain bullets.

Neither a 2" difference in twist rate nor a 2" difference in barrel length will make any predictable difference in accuracy. Even though mass produced, rifles are individuals and accuracy is more dependent on things about the internals of the gun that you cannot see with the naked eye.

So it is kind of a crapshoot. Buy the one you like and go hunting. Any decent sporting rifle will hit a critter in the heart from any sportsmanlike range.

Thank you Jim. I didn't think it would really make a difference in accuracy but I wanted to ask the experts

As for the rifles they are the marlin xs7s (stainless) and tc venture. Both are pretty close as for price range.

1 in 12" twist will stabilize bullets plenty heavier than 175 grains...as long as the barrel is at least 22 inches. I've shot moly'd 208 grain Amax's out of a 20" barrel... stable and accurate out to 1,100 yards. It would be fine with 190's without the moly...

1 in 10" will stabilize 220 grain bullets...but the 308 won't shoot them fast enough to be useful.
