I have a browning BPS stalker and an old CCI ss shotgun with a fixed full choke im just getting into some predator hunting and would like to use my BPS but i have only a modifyed, full, and ic choke for it. I could use the old CCI shotgun.
Will using a rifled slug in a shotgun with a full choke damage it.

I shoot slugs through a IC choke on my FNH....lots of them. Never had an issue and my groups are about 2.5" at 50 yds.....good enough for what I need them for.

"...would an IC choke work..." Yep.
"...Old rule of thumb..." Old myth. A slug through a full choke won't bother it.

Full chokes are fine. Accuracy will probably suck, but it wont be unsafe. IC will probably be most accurate.

Do not fire your shotgun with no choke tube installed. You will probably damage your threads - and it will happen pretty fast.

If you want to use your BPS, go for it.

IC will be great. Make sure you use the right slugs - sabots are a waste of money unless you have a rifled barrel.

Most slugs intended for use in smooth bore shotguns are made from soft lead and designed to swage through any choke without damaging the gun. The "rifling" on rifled slugs has nothing to do with rotating the projectile, and are only there to help the slug compress.

Some slugs cast from a hard alloy should only be fired through an IC or cylinder choke, but these usually indicate so on the box.
