Rossi 357 snub - Swap or Keep?

I've got a Rossi 357 mag snub that I keep as a bedside home defense gun. Its got a stiff double action pull, but is reliable and accurate.

Should I hang onto it, or swap it for a 4 inch revolver for IDPA?

If I swap, which 4 inch should I use for IDPA?

Your opinions are wanted and respected.

Why not keep it and then buy a 4" gun for IDPA, like a 586 or 686 Smith? I don't think you can ever go wrong keeping as many revolvers around as possible.

Keep the Rossi for its stated use, if you ever have to use it, you may / could lose it for at least the duration of the investigation. It would be better to lose a low value Rossi than a more expensive S&W, Ruger or Colt. Just my two cents. P.T.

Okay - I follow. I've always liked the 686 Smith. I was thinking about going with a Mountain gun in .44 or something in 45 long colt, as the muzzle velocity to qualify is relatively low. Its much easier to reacquire for followup shots in the bigger calibers.

Nothing wrong w/ a stiff trigger

For a gun that is being used for home defense - a stiff trigger is not a bad thing - you won't squeeze off an arrent shot. Once you send it, you can't recall it.

I also suggest keeping the Rossi; as usually they are decent guns for the money~!

Keep it. I don't think you will get too much for it as a trade in. They are good revolvers, and the best value is in keeping it, not selling it.

Keep the gun, get rid of the ammo. Look into some Buffalo Bore for SD ammo.

Keep the Rossi and buy a S&W M625 for IDPA...

count me in...keep the snub for HD/car gun; invest a bit of $$$ to get the trigger pull cleaned up by a competent gunsmith; save up for a few months and get a nice used 4" barreled revo in .38 spl or .357 mag

Why not shoot the Rossi in IDPA...I shot my 2" Rossi all summer one year and you'd be amazed(as would other shooters)at how good you can get w/ a snubby.Once a week 50-75 rounds all summer turned me into a hell of a snubby shooter.
As for the trigger..mine was heavy too,but after I shot the snot out of it that year it smoothed up(still heavy by some standards,but usable)
I'm a big proponant of using carry and SD guns in IDPA(not that I always do,but I like the idea).
Of course you can never have too many guns,so buy a new too

Oh,and I think Wolf makes lighter springs for Rossi's.Of course if it's still gonna be your SD gun,I don't recommend using lighter springs unless you test them alot for ingnition problems.I see alot of guys have light strikes w/ their cometition revolvers.
