Greetings,

Simple question: I am buying a RRA Entry tactical for my wife with the standard "flat" tactical carry handle it comes with (picatinny rail in front of the rear sight). She'll get an ACOG on it. Do the ACOG mount is a see through so she can uses the iron sights still?

Thank you

The ACOG mount is only see-through when used in a standard carry handle with the correct screw & washer. She will not be able to use iron sights without removing the ACOG and mounting the ACOG to the RRA handle will result in the rear sights sitting in front of the ACOG lens.

Basically, the RRA Entry Tactical carry handle is meant to be used with an Aimpoint M2/M3/M4 in a 30mm ring. That is pretty much the only mount that even partially works with it. You'd be better off to ditch the carry handle and get a nice folding back-up iron sight.

Greetings,

Ok, she can ditch the carry handle. Will folding irons (like the ARMS) work with the ACOG?
What about the standard front sight? Will it work with the folding sight?

Thank you

Will folding irons (like the ARMS) work with the ACOG?

It will work with the ARMS #40L. With the ARMS #40 you'll get the occasional weird tolerance stack where it won't fit if you are using the TA60 or TA51 Trijicon mount. Having owned the ARMS #40, I would recommend you skip the ARMS sights entirely and go with either Troy, or the Magpul MBUS if budget is an issue.

There are dozens of backup iron sights, so I couldn't say which ones will or will not fit. Part of it will also depend on what flattop ACOG mount you are using.

What about the standard front sight? Will it work with the folding sight?

Which ACOG? If you are using a 3x or higher magnification ACOG, the front sight will be outside the focal length of the lens and you won't see it through the glass (you'll see a slight shadow that is barely noticeable because the ACOG glass is that good; but by and large, it isn't an issue).

Yes, it will work with a folding front sight too. Just make sure you get the right height sight as there are sights made for HK416s (taller rail so shorter sight), gas blocks (lower than receiver so taller sight) and rail-mounted. You'll need to get the one most appropriate to your use.

Greetings,

I am confused with your answer. Not your fault. Mine.

It is my understanding with your answer that I can find a rear sight that will be the right height for the standard front sight.

If I have an ACOG mounted, because it is see through, that means I'll be able to use the iron sights and the ACOG. Right?

I understand the front sight won't be an issue with the ACOG.

Thank you

A quick +1 for ACOG. I have a TA31F on my Colt 6940. That thing is amazing! Went shooting 2 days ago and held a 5 shot group sub 1" at 100 yards with the ACOG, and I'm by no means an excellent shooter. If any piece of equipment can turn an average Joe into a marksman, it's the ACOG. I brought out another friend that's never fired a gun before in her life, she held about 2 MOA on 3 shots at 100 yards after 15 or so shots.

I have the BUIS folded under the ACOG (TA51 mount that came with it) on a flat top. If, by some act of god, I actually need to use them, (like a lightning bolt hits the ACOG, because that's pretty much the only way it'll break before the gun does ;)) I can just twist off the 2 knobs that hold the mount on and flip up the Irons and I'm good to go.

Happy to post pics if it'll help.

kestak,
what is the context in which the ar will be used? i will await this answer before i will be able to give much more guidence.

also i highly suggest that you do not use the carry handle mount. especially since you have the flat top rifle.

or you could get the acog nsn model with the irons that sit on top.
or you could spend alot of coin and get an acog with a doctor optic on top.

Greetings,

This AR will be used by my wife as her defense gun. It will be shot every week from close combat 25 yards to 500 yards. She needs Irons and wants military grade optic.

Right now, she shoots mine that is a CAR-15 with standard A2 and 557 + 3x magnifier mounted on the handle. It is a little bit bulky, it is why I am switching this setup on my SIG 556 and I plan to get an ACOG too for CQB.

She decided to get equipped with one rifle and do it right because there is too much confusion with the 4 black rifles we have right now (AK-47 pimped up with ATI stock/ RRA CAR-15/SIG 556/FS2000). She wants to specialize and use the same gun day/night.

Thank you
P.S.: Consider her like a man. She shoots 44 mag each week and 500S&W for the kick every time I have time to reload her some rounds....

if you don't mind my asking what is it she and/ or you are defending against at ranges of 500yds? is this realistic defense or preparing for the zombie attack that is comming?

Greetings,

It is a valid question. Zombies are just in movies...:what: Am I wrong????

Seriously: 0-200 yards is the range of the open sight on our land. But we don't EVER want or expect to use our guns. However, crime rate is skyrocketting here. It becomes to be crazy. In the last 2 weeks, in the area (CSRA) I counted by the news report 12 armed roberies/home invasions resulting with violence.

Anyway, the remaining of the yards 300-500, it is the distance we are comfortable to shoot at Fort Gordon with 3x-4x optic. We plan to do next month Appleseed too for fun. It will give me the opportunity to be part of the CMP and buy finally the best rifle of the world (per General Patton)...:D

I do have a varminter RRA top 245 inches/ Stag lower and parts/ JP trigger/ 10-30x 55 mm scope that does wonderful at long range (after I solved the stupid wandering zero...hehehe)

Anyway, it is simple: ACOG with iron sights capabilities. The RRA has a fixed standard sight, it comes with the tactical handle. I can remove the handle to accomodate a rear sight.

Thank you

You cannot use iron sights with a mounted ACOG unless you have the ACOG mounted in a standard carry handle. If you have any type of flattop mount with the ACOG, you have to remove the ACOG to use irons.

If you want to cowitness irons, you need a true 1x sight.
