Ruger 10/22- Scope Base Thread Size?

Seeing pretty inconsistent results on-line...

I am looking for the size of the tapped holes on top of the Ruger 10/22 receiver where a scope base can be mounted. 6-40 or 6-48?

don't know, but if I was looking I'd search Ruger online for the little plugs and it should say what they are and thread etc.

One time I stripped one and took the screw to Ace Hardware. I said I wanted 4 black dome head allen screws just one size bigger and the tap. Went home put the rifle under my drill press, drilled and tapped all 4 holes. Perfect. Drilled and countersunk the base to recess the dome heads. Came out stronger tban before and extremely nice.

They're 6-48, unless they've been changed recently.

I would guess that it is 6-40. My thread gauge only had a 42 pitch blade and the thread on the short plug appeared to be coarser. I need to find out now because I dropped it while trying too put it back in and couldn't find it.....

6-48, without question. I've got a rifle that I modified a VQ extended mount and D&T'd several new holes in the receiver.
