Ruger 10/22 sight install

I ordered up a set of hiviz sights for my ruger 10/22 to replace the missing rear and hard to see front sight (my eyes suck). My question is when installing the new sights in the dove tail, should i coat the surface in oil? Or just keep it dry? I usually put a little on my scope rings and under bases. Just not sure about dove tails,maybe it would make them more prone to shift?

Couldn't hurt,,, Just make sure you push the sights out from left to right and back in from right to left.

A bit of oil or grease wouldn't hurt. I do that when putting parts together on just about anything that is metal on metal, firearm sights included.

It sure helps keep the rust away, IMO.

Installed them yesterday. The rear was already (missing) . My uncle removed it for me when I was in highschool. Looks like he drove it out backwards so the dove tail was LOOSE. Peened the edges and put some red locktite on it . Hopefully it holds. Front sight installed easily at least .
