Dropped by my favorite LGS today and asked my usual question, "put anything new out today?" " Yes, as a matter of fact" he responded. Fifteen minutes later I was the proud owner a Ruger American in .22 LR, the price was $249.99. He had all 4 versions in stock, I chose the .22 LR based on the price of ammo. I'm hoping to get time to put a scope on the gun and hit the range tomorrow, might have a report tomorrow night. This is what I get for opening my mouth, I didn't even know Ruger was making these in rimfire.

You guys are killing me. I want one very bad. Please post an update and pics when you get a chance.

Enjoy,

Matt

Update on the post from yesterday. I put a 4x Leupold scope on the rifle and hit the range for a few minutes on Saturday, this gun has real potential. The only ammo I had with me was CCI mini mags (HP & CRN) The gun shot groups under half an inch at 25 yds, I was happy since it was over 90 degrees and the rest left something to be desired. The trigger pull isn't too bad when you consider Ruger's track history of lousy triggers.

If you're in the market for a .22 that's fairly priced and is fun to shoot you look at this new Ruger.

Saw one at Kittery Trading Post yesterday. They had .22 WMR and .22 LR. They wanted $269 for the LR (didn't look at the price on the magnum.) Seemed like a nice gun and I was tempted, but I've got to pick up tags and licenses for archery season in two states and my truck is going to need some work this week...

would love to see a more thorough review. i'm curious if they'll show the accuracy that their center-fire counterparts do. i'd like to pick one up myself.

My LGS is charging the same for either the 22 LR or magnum $249.99. It was interesting watching the other shooters, as soon as I bought mine 3 other guys bought them too. The dealer received 8 and I'm sure by Tuesday they'll all be gone.

Saw one in a semi-LGS on Wed. Aug. 28th sitting on the counter in an open box. Hadn't even heard of a Ruger American in 22LR yet until I walked in there. Usually when a new gun comes out I see it advertised and written up in some gun publication long before I ever see one in person. They look nice and I can't wait to hear more about them 'cause if they shoot as good as they look then I might be real interested in one.
