Just double checking - it's possible to convert an RAR 22 from Compact to Standard just by changing out the stock module?

i.e. convert model 8306 (18" compact/threaded) to model 8305 (18" standard/threaded) by adding the standard pull stock module.

I need a 22 for the kids to learn on, and I want them to learn on a bolt gun with open sights - just want to make sure that the gun can grow with them. I'm thinking compact/open sights now, and throw on the high comb standard pull stock module later and adding a scope once they're older and proficient.

I think that's a great choice!

I have the 8305 and happen to know it's identical to the 8306 except for the stock, but why not just ask Ruger?

I'm only 99.9% sure you can do what you want because I don't own the compact model. The spec sheet says "Standard stock modules are available at ShopRuger.com" so it stands to reason they already considered what you want to do.

Spec sheets in case you don't have them already:

Great. Ordered a compact 8306 yesterday - brand new gun store opened in town (was opening day, 15 lanes, sorely needed around here), but they only had the 17HMR compact in stock. I'm 6'4" and even with the short pull it was comfortable to shoulder. No need to upgrade the stock for a while, but I like that the ability is there.

Gold, I might do the same for my boys. I think I saw aftermarket stocks priced at $24 or $29 (?IIRC?). You might want to order a full sized stock right now if I'm right about the price so that you don't have to worry about availability sometime in the future.
