I have recently acquired a Ruger Blackhawk Flat Top (2 scew) in 45 Colt.

I would like to use it for hunting, primarily whitetail.

Now from previous experience with a Ruger .357 Mag the sights while durable and rugged are just that, rugged. The front post darn near covers a target at 100 yards. While I can help this a little with a “ 6 o’clock” hold its not really what I prefer. To be clear I wouldn’t be making hunting shots at 100 yards that’s more for the practice and entertainment value but still something I’d like to improve.

I am interested if anyone makes a finer/thinner sights for the Ruger Blackhawks. What sights do the silhouette target shooters use?

You might want to try Warren Custom peep sight rear blade in your BlackHawk. I have one on my BlackHawk convertible 45 ACP/.45 Colt. It makes target acquisition very fast, and longer range shots easier while using the existing Ruger front blade. If you really want a thinner front blade, you could always file the sides of the existing blade to make it thinner. Just be sure to take off material equally on both sides of the blade.

I’d put a dot on it. But I also practice shooting at moving animals, and I’ve found a dot is 100x easier for that.

I would put a red dot on it in a heartbeat if I could find a way to mount one without drilling and tapping. But all the options in that department are for the Large frame guns with the ears around the rear sight. I might have goofed up a little with the Flat-top. But it was just sleek I couldn’t help myself.
