Well, sort of. I was going to wait until I had the #5 basepin and new front sight but the "free" shipping is too slow and I'm impatient. So here's the Carryhawk with an aluminum XR3-RED grip frame off my .41 Blackhawk and aluminum ejector housing. Both of which have now been bead blasted. The grip frame has been roundbutted. The grips reshaped, refitted, sanded to the grip frame and repolished. I think we're getting somewhere with this.

Installed the Ruger ramp front sight, LPA target rear sight and Power Custom #5 basepin. Now I can actually test the thing. I could roll a Coke can with that big fat white dot front sight but would hate to see the groups it would've produced. Thinking I might go back to the steel ejector housing.

It was a good companion while I burned burned another Ave Maria this afternoon, in case any interlopers interrupted my smoke.

Once this is done, are you going to practice fanning the revolver during self defense drills? :D

Love it.

How much goes into roundbutting one yourself? That's a great look on a short barreled revolver.
Not too much. I have a 48" belt grinder that made it easy. Used a quarter for a pattern, which is about all you can take off of one. I did the grip frame first and then made the grips match it. Just cut the corners off with a bandsaw and the rest with files and sandpaper.

I might have maintained the flat finish theme on the grips also.
Regardless, I would be proud to own that carryhawk. Well done.
I hope to see its holster soon.
Not sure how I'd go about doing that but I'd probably lose the grain with anything but a polish. I have some Hogue black micarta that 'may' end up on it but before that happens, I need to decide if it is to receive one of my aluminum Bisley grip frames or stay as-is.

I have a holster 90% finished but I just used an existing pattern that didn't have enough room for that jacked-up front sight.

That sounds interesting.
I do like the grips you have on it. Are they polished horn?

Cut a slot and let it stick out. Then you can strike your Diamond matches on the ramp like Josie Wales.

Nice outfit. Did you test the XS dot sight before swapping? Looks like you put a real high blade on? You planning long range shooting? Wondering if the xs sight was standard height?

I shot it but did not test it. I knew the big dot and V-notch was going away and didn't want to waste time on it. If I decide to go Bisley, I'll probably need all the front sight height I can get for heavy bullets.
