Hello all-

I have 2 ruger LCR's. One is a .38 +p and the other is the .357 Magnum.

I have between 500-600 rounds through each of these wheelies, all have been a mixed bag of std 38's, +p's, and magnums, ALL have been some form of FMJ/JHP.

I have noticed on each gun, in the forcing cone area is a small amount of build up of what I am assuming is carbon as I dont shoot lead rounds.

Is this normal? I was able to pick/scrape it off with a wooden q-tip end with no problem.

I assume this is normal, but am new to wheelies!

Comments are wecome and thanks in advance!

Normal in a revolver. You can scrub it off with good bore solvent and a old tooth brush or small wire brush. I've also used fine steel wool and solvent wrapped on the end of a Popsicle stick to do the same thing.

Yep, I also use a bronze bristled toothbrush.

As an aside, FMJs typically are showing lead to the burning powder, so some small amount of lead can accumulate too. (If you can see an unloaded FMJ bullet you'll see what I mean)

Thanks Waywatcher!

I assume you are reffering to the non capsulated bases on some jacketed rounds?

Correct!

JHP, TMJ (Speer) and Plated bullets all have copper bases. I bet there's more but those are the ones I know of.
