Just got the new Ruger LCR-22 from my LGS yesterday for a very good price- $400 otd. Thought I'd give my initial impressions of the little "fellow". What's not to love about a 15 oz. (loaded) 8 shot, double action .22 LR snubby with a good trigger?

Fired 118 rounds of about 8 different types of ammo. Best groups from 7 yrds. were about 2 inches with both Win. Super X (1300 fps) & Rem. Target. The rest of the ammo types- Fed. Lightning, Fed. bulk, Aguila Target, CCI Subsonic & CCI Minimag were Okay (the CCI Minimag locked up the cyclinder for no apparent reason however). There were no problems other than the one mentioned with CCI Minimag. The trigger was good enough that very quick emptying of the 8 shot cyclinder was easy to achieve.

What is the purpose of this weapon you may well ask? I normally carry a Kahr CW40, but in hot weather I may well carry the little Ruger and not even know it's there! In any case it's a nice "toy" and fun at the range. If you have the LCR .38 or .357 (I don't currently), the .22 would make a nice practice substitute. :) WB

Thanks for the review. They seem like a neat little range popper and pocket gun. My dad has an LCR .38 and has looked at the LCR-22s. I like the looks of them but I'm holding out for the .22 WMR version. THAT would make a heck of a drop-in-the-fishing vest gun to me. Though the .22 LR is close.

Any hints as to why the CCI Mini-Mags tied it up? CCIs have been the one .22 ammunition I can count on to deliver everytime, so I find that odd. (The only .22 ammo I've ever had tie up a revolver was some RWS Target Rifle that did not agree with my S&W 18. I had to pound the empties out with a rod.)

MCgunner, have you checked out Rugers new SP101 with a 4.2 inch barrel front fiber optic and adjustable rear sight? Looks like a helluva trail gun.

My brother and I both have LCR-22's. I also have an LCR 357.

The LCR 22 is a fun gun to shoot. We have been doing Tactical Reloads in our defensive pistol matches in BUG Division using the Tuff Products Model 1022 Quick Strips loaded in pairs, skipping a shell between pairs. You can load 7 rounds in this manner very rapidly. Great practice for loading the 38/357 with Quick Strips also.

I conceal carry the LCR 22 some of the time. I live in a very low threat rural area. I do however shoot lots of snakes every Summer.

Loaded with 8 Stingers the LCR 22 would not be the worst choice for a lot of Lady shooters to start out concealed carrying either in my opinion. Great gun to practice with a lot, and not pick up any bad habits from unpleasant recoil. It is also cheap to shoot a lot, and get good with it.

I personally like it a lot.

walker- the only theory I have on the Minimags tying up the LCR is possibly one of the cases was out of spec causing the case head to protrude too much for the cyclinder to rotate. I'm not sure that was it, though. Like you, I've always had good luck with Minimags in autoloaders. WB

agree with McGunner
but if they made it in 22WMR, I think I just might 'need' one anyway, just because

I'm hoping that, with the success of the LCR series, that they add the .22WMR next year. If not, I'm going shopping for the S&W351PD.

Lcr-22

If Ruger would make the LCR in 22 mag, I think it would be a good seller. If they could keep the weight down to about 17 oz., it would be a great seller! Why not e-mail Ruger and state you interest? :) WB

I'd probably pop for a LCR in 22 Mag. I have the LCR-22 now. It is a fun little revolver. Can I shoot it as well as a 6" M17.... No, but I didn't expect to.

question for the smiths amongst us here
but if Ruger did the LCR as DA/SA with hammer, could they still duplicate their LCR DA(O) trigger feel ?
seems a dubious proposition to me

in a snubbie, even though I best like my traditional snubbies as DA/SA, I wouldn't really care; a DAO LCR WMR would do for me

The LCR38 only ways 13.5 ounces so I'm sure the 22Mag wouldn't weigh more than that.

Yeah, I've thought about it in .357. I had a 2.3" SP101 that was a great shooter. I have a little Rossi 511 Sportsman .22 kit gun that's a tack driver, a niche I need not fill. However, I did pick up a little Ruger SR22 the other day. It shoots VERY tight 25 yard groups, very useful as a kit gun, light, fits in a pocket. I'm sorta infatuated by that gun at the moment. :D

I broke down and bought the SR22 also. Holsters are a bit of a problem but I found that the Blackhawk ambi holster (#5) fits the gun real well and its sold at Wally World ($19). Make sure the barrel stays tight. There have been problems with it loosening.

I am passing totally on the SP101 22 for now. I will buy the first SW M63 (3") I find at a gun shop if priced fairly. That will fill the new SP101 22 niche quite well for me, plus I already have the 5" M63.
