Took my MK I to the range yesterday. PITA to load mags but that
thing shoots better at 15 meters than any of my other handguns
fo a 7 meters. On top of that I prob had not touched it except to
oil the bore then run dry patch in 20 years.
If the mags were only easier to load I think I would shot it a lot more.

I took some scrap wood and made a little wooden box, open at top and bottom, and just big enough to slide the magazine into. The box is simply glued together -- no nails or screws needed. To be fancy, I made a half-moon cut-out on the inside of the box, to fit around the magazine button.

When I take my Ruger automatic to the range, I drop that little box in my pocket. To load the magazine, I slide the box down over the magazine, press down to compress the spring, and hold it while inserting cartridges.

I have a plastic mag loader for it and it is still a PITA.
Thanks for the idea tho. Thinking about selling or
trading for a 22 revolver but hate to as I only paid 115.00
for it. Prob can just sit in safe for that.

I have never found the mags for my Ruger Standard Model (fixed sights) to be difficult to load. Could it be a left handed thing? (And if so, then I have no sympathy for your righties since everything else in life is so darned hard.)

I run a home for errant .22's if you ever decide you would rather not load those troublesome magazines...

All kidding aside, I always just pushe them up against the bench and compressed the springs to load them after my thumbs start complaning.
