Ruger MKII?

I'm thinking about buying a .22LR pistol just for plinking, target shooting, etc. The stainless Ruger MKII caught my eye, it's pretty cool looking. Anyone own one? I've seen a lot of different models, different barrel lengths, etc. What would be a good one for my purpose?

I'm also considering the CZ Kadet.

I have the 678 Target model. It's a 1984 model that I picked on one of the auction sites. It's never given me any problems and has great accuracy. One can never go wrong with a good .22LR pistol.

The Mark II is a great pistol with a well deserved reputation, the only problem is that Ruger has gone to the Mark III which is full of added safety features like loaded chamber indicators and magazine safeties. There may be some new Mark IIs around, but they'll be hard to find. If you can find a used one in good condition grab it.

I love my MkII. You couldn't give me one of the new ones (Mk III), I had the misfortune to work on one a couple of weeks ago.

I am another Mark II fan. My slabside is a tack driver and fun to shoot.
I take care of a couple of Mark III's at the range. I like the mag release change and I don't mind the loaded chamber indicator now that Ruger has changed the design to a safe one. What I don't like is the mag disconnect. It doesn't bother me when I'm shooting but when I take the guns apart to clean them, it drives me nuts. I'm so used to breaking down the Mark II's that I always forget to insert the mag just to manipulate the hammer. I end up putting in the mag and taking it out 3 times when I clean one. If it's one thing Ruger didn't need on their Mark II pistols is extra steps to take them down. While I've never had a problem, lots of people already think it's difficult and this makes it more so.

In any event, great 22's for the price.

I have a stainless model with a bull barrel... 4" or 5" not sure... shoots like a big dollar target pistol, and I paid about $280 from sports authority when they were fazing out their pistol stock....

I think every pistol shooter should have one of these little guns for fun and educating people on how to shoot. so far I have used it to teach several friends and relatives how to shoot pistols with it. cheap, no recoil and easy sights with a good grip design that fits almost anyone.

A big plus if you can find an older MKII instead of the newer MKIII models... less stuff to worry about when cleaning it.

Don't think, buy it! Either one! The Mk. II is a great pistol. I have a 22/45 that is an absolute tack-driver. It shoots as well as .22 pistols costing two or three times more. You can upgrade the Mk. II with Volquartsen parts, mount an Ultradot on it w/ SoLow mounts, etc. It'll provide you with a lifetime of shooting pleasure, and it's a great platform for general learning and practice as well.

Buy the Mk. II, then buy a CZ 75b, then buy a Kadet kit for the 75b. Now that's a plan!

By all means go with the Ruger MK II .... and feel confident in your choice. I believe between the MK I, MK II and MK III, the MK II will find a place closest to shooters hearts when the dust finally settles.

When they were discontinued a short while back, I searched out and bought more than several of them.
