Id like to start getting into gunsmithing. I have a ruger P-89, and Makarov that I wouldnt cry over breaking by accident. I have three questions.

1. What will I need to have handy to take down either weapon, and where can I get these things.

2. Does anyone have detailed break down documents on either weapon?

3. Id like to polish up some of the parts. Can someone give me a description of what I can do to make the trigger pull and parts work better. What do I need to do that?

For the Makarov you basically only need the cleaning rod with the little prong on the end. It makes removing the extractor easier. For the rest of it, a small screwdriver or pair of needle nose pliers, maybe. Check Makarov.com of the AGI video on the Makarov for details and procedure.

For the Ruger, be careful. Some of the parts are not sold, but are only available when Ruger puts them in. The trick to taking down the slide is to get the extractor out. Push out gently and pull forward. After that it's pretty easy. I've got no advice on the frame parts, sorry.

Makarov comes apart with no tools at all with the exception of two things. Removing the extractor requires the cleaning rod and removing the barrel from the frame requires a press. .
