Do any of you guys (or girls) know anyone who owns a Ruger P-944?
Ever shot one?
Any information you can give me would be appreciated.
I really like my Glock but if I can't teach myself to shoot it well (haven't given up yet though) I am going to want to replace it.
Never owned a Ruger P series but everything I read about them is good.
Anyhow, I would like to know how the P-944 would compare to a Glock 23 in terms of weight, overall size, reliability, accuracy, and very important to me, controllability/shootability.
Also, are they limited to 10 round magazines or are hi-caps available for them? Single or double stack? Not really a deal breaker but I am curious.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Have the P944 but not the Glock (not a Glock fan). Mine is absolutely reliable with any brand or type of ammo I have stuffed into the magazine (as I have to come to expect with my other Ruger P series as well). Mine is quite accurate. Though I do have to work harder to shoot it as accurately as I can shoot with the lighter recoiling 9mm version of the P94 that I also have. The weight of the P944 does help soak up the recoil (I would expect..but can't verify..that it would be lower that of the Glock)...but since I have the 9mm version as well...I do in fact notice more flip/snap/recoil when compared to the 9mm version. I have absolute faith in mine. I do believe that there are 11 round magazines available..but I am fine with the 10 rounders..the extra 1 round is a non-issue for me.

With the 2 40 calibers I have..head to head...I do shoot my CZ40P very well with a little less work. Can't explain why exactly...just can with a little less concentration. If that makes any sense.

:)

I had a KP944Dc. It was a higly accurate gun that was built like the proverbial brick s**thouse. It ate anything I cared to feed it, and generally put them where I aimed them. The only reason I no longer own it was the long sloppy trigger pull. It went bang every time I pulled the trigger, but every mag would have two or three strays because of the trigger. Traded it in on a Sig P229, and got two guns for the price of one when I got the 357 Sig barrel along with the 40 cal S&W barrel. Both barrels just drop in, no spring or magazine changes needed.

I have both a 23 and a KP-944.

There used to be 11 round mags for the P-944, they were known as P-91 mags, but they are no longer made. Only 10 rounders are available now. 11 rounds was pretty much the max the 944 could hold due to the width of the magazine and frame.

Here's the bottom line:

Reliabilty - both are equally reliable IMO.
Accuracy - unable to tell the difference between both guns in my hands
Size - The Ruger is utterly huge compared to the Glock 23. This doesn't make me love the 944 any less, but it is something to consider.
CCW - Glock wins here hands down. It's lighter and smaller.
Capacity - Goes to Glock. 13 rounds with 15 rounds available in a G22 mag
Accessories - Again Glock

I really like both guns but for different reasons. The 944 is my house gun due to it's size. The G23 goes out more due to it's size and weight.

Don't let the Ruger haters talk you out of the 944, it's a fine weapon. Also, don't let the Glock haters talk you out of the G23, it's a excellent weapon as well.

Thanks.
I stopped by my favorite shop today and handled one. Then I handled a P-95.
I think I am going to go with the P-95 instead. I have had a lot of 9mm's and after playing around with the P-95 I realized that I miss having one around.

So I am planning to sell my Glock 23 to fund a P-95.
Polymer and stainless new version with the accessory rail and US made with a great warranty service for $359.
15 round mags are available.
They have been made long enough that all the bugs are worked out of them.
I have never heard of anyone having a problem with them.
9mm is cheap and an effective defense load and its controllable enough that getting alot of them on target isn't a hard thing to do.
And the lighter recoil makes it better for introducing new shooters (decent compromise since its all I have).
So with all of that going for it how could I not want one?

The only thing is that now I will have to trade off about 350 rounds of .40 ammo...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I appreciate it.
