Looking at buying a new 22lr autoloader. I really like the 2 tone laminate wood stock with stainless barrel on the remington 597 lss and the ruger K10/22-T. Both seem to be good quality rifles. So which one should I get and why? Or should I forget them and get something different? What should I expect to pay for each? Thanks.

Depends on what you want to spend. My father gave me one of these when I was little (US Made) and I gave my son one (Japan made).

They are fantastic rifles and heirloom quality. $550 is MSRP.
(Oh, it's a Browning)

Iver Johnson US Carbine Cal .22LR, AKA the Ermawerke EM-1 Selbslader.

Looks like an M-1 carbine, but .22 caliber.

Another for the Marlin, and they're cost less than the other options too.

Some folks are put off by the tube mag, but it's actually easier and more pleasant to use than a detach-mag. After loading several hundred rounds into a 10/22 mag, you'll know what I mean.

10/22 is cool if you want to swap parts and trick it out.

If you just want to shoot the heck out of the thing, get the Marlin.

An added bonus: depending what part of the country you're in, they're thick as fleas in pawnshops for $75 or so a pop. Just a result of Marlin having built some 10 million of the suckers.

wow you guy like marlins 60 that much.. well i am in the market for a good 22 rifle auto loader but though that tube would be a pain in the a** to mess with i never heard that it was easier:what: ???? i already own russian m44 and a rossi shotgun so a 22 auto-loader is next in line... and i dislike the ruger 10/22 cause they are a bitch to clean... what make a marlin so good i know everyone and there brother owns one why i am new to gun so be easy on me...:)

ruger 10/22T

I have 1 , its a riot to shoot killer accurate at 50 yds , I need a better scope for 100 yds,
paid $219 at wally world

If you must settle for an "r" gun, the Ruger is IMHO a better rifle.

I had a 597 and had nothing but problems with it, and problems with remmmm. customer whatever they call it. It is gone!

I got a Marlin 60 in stainless. It is just a better gun! Mine is fairly accurate, but the Marlin 60 my wife has shoots very accurately. I think they clean way easier than the 597's.

If you got...say...$430. saved up, you could get a Marlin 39a lever action .22!
They are worth every penny. A lifetime investment. Cost should average out to about $2.00 per year over the lifetime of the gun.

By the way, that Browning that TexasSIGman showed ya, that is First Class too.

Good luck!

I just bought a Marlin 795 with a detatch mag. I've only taken it out once and put 250 mixed rounds through it , and it is too much fun.
My 31 year old 10/22 has a new barrel and stock , shoots great and is now heavy and not to great to hump in the bush [carry]. This new 795 is accurate and very light weight. It's what my 10/22 was way back when.
p.s. I never found my 10/22 any worse to clean than any other .22 rifle.

Another 10-22 fan here. Accurate and feeds everything I've tried so far. .Only complaint is the trigger pull is a bit heavier that I would like.

I personally love the 10/22... but then again, I like customizing... and all but one of mine are built up...

the Marlin is a good gun, but they have a problem after alotta shooting... there is a parts kit called a "throater kit" that fixes it, but in the last 20 years that I have been shooting my first 10/22, and my buddy has been shooting his Marlin Mod 60, he has put 2 throater kits in his gun, and I haven't replaced a single part on mine!

I think you are wrong about the 10/22 being hard to clean. I don't see how it could get much easier.

marlin model 60 is really cheap, and is more accurate and reliable than in should be for the price. Plus, you can get it in stainless, and you can order a black/grey synthetic stock from marlin. They don't have a lot of upgrades, and it has a tube magazine, so you can't get hi-cap mags, although the stock tube magazine holds 15 rounds and is really easy to load.

I just bought a 597 a couple months ago and love it. Out of the box, I can out shoot any stock 10/22's brought to the range. The 597 can't shoot the cheap ammo like the 10/22, but if you put something decent in it you'll be happy you bought it. Also, the 597 gives a guy a stock meant for adults, unlike Ruger.

i've owned and shot them all.

the fun gun I have is a henry lever.

paid $150 at a gun show.

just my $.02
