Looking for some insights from a gunsmith. Is it a major undertaking to swap out a 2 3/4 barrel out to a 4 inch. In my search for a stainless Speed Six, I ended up at one point with a short barreled Security. Now that I obtained my "grail" revolver, I'd like to transform my Security to a 4 inch model. This is not something I plan to do myself. I'm just checking to see if this is a major undertaking for a qualified gunsmith. It's obvious that it threads in, and I'm sure that there is more involved as far as making sure it's locked in place and not canted, etc. What say you, gentleman of knowledge? Workable?

For a smith with the knowledge and correct tools, very doable. The trick is finding one who's not backlogged for three years. All of the good ones are. Of course, you can find someone who will stick a hammer handle through the frame to use as a wrench pretty easily. Trouble is that your frame takes on a sort of pretzel shape when he does that. Kinda tough to iron the wrinkles out.

I would have thought that there were folks who would be happy to trade a 4" Security Six for a 2 3/4" Security Six.

Good luck with the swap!
Tom

I don't know if they will do it or not, but why not call Ruger? They would have the tools and parts to do the job.
