Just ordered a Ruger single six in 22/22mag. The blued models come standard with black plastic grips. I would like to replace them with wood, preferably with the ruger logo. Does anybody know of a good source?

I would first suggest contacting Ruger to determine if wooden grips are available thru them as accessory items. Also wooden grips are available thru both Brownells and MidwayUSA(don't know if they would have the logo on them). Lastly, try sone of the websites like Ebay or Gunbroker for these grips. They do list them from time to time.

I know of an excellent source. They are not cheap but they are very high quality and can be individually fitted to your grip frame. Fit and finish over a regular set of aftermarket grips (yes, even Ruger's own) will be head and shoulders above. Medallions can be installed in any of them.

Here's one of the last sets he did for me, these in fancy claro walnut with black eagle medallions on an Old Model Single Six.

I will just caution that the CLC grips will be "fatter" than the factory grips. Something to consider. Unlike the double action grip makers that will ask for a sketch of your hand I am not aware of a single action grip maker that will do the same. And, as we know, fit to ones hand means everything. This is a shot of a pair of grips Alan Harton made for me for a Single Six. They fit my hand perfectly with essentially no widening as they develop to the base of the grip frame, just like your hand. As I have wrote above, it's all in how they fit your hand.

When you register your new Ruger gun on line, you will get a free discount coupon to use on grips of anything else at Ruger. I got a set of their Rosewood grips for my new Single Six and I love them.

Cary will make his grips thicker if you like but those I pictured are his slimmer "Colt-style" grips. Don't have a Colt with factory grips but they're the identical overall width at the bottom and only 1/8" thicker at the top compared to my recent vintage USFA SAA with checkered "hard rubbers". Less taper is a good thing. They're perfect on the XR3 grip frame.

Start looking on Ebay there are usually TONS of single six/Blackhawk grips on there for reasonable prices, both factory and aftermarket.

I have both a single six and a blackhawk 357,and the grips are interchangable!
