Ruger SP101 Weigand Special.
The same shop I got my Smith 640 at today has one of these.
Best trigger I have ever seen on a Ruger SP101, bobbed hammer and it was ported.
Now the Weigand porting is on top of the barrel and spans between the frame and the front sight. Big holes also.
Neat gun, but I liked the 640 better.

Anyone else got to play with one of these?

No experience with the 101, but have a Weigand 642 with the full treatment that is awesome. The DA trigger pull is about 7-8lbs and really smooth, so smooth that I've had a few unintentional double-taps at the range with it. Ports are pretty effective & easy to clean(WD40 & a few q-tips). I was originally looking for a 101, but saw this 642 instead and haven't regretted it at all. An almost perfect carry gun. If you like his work I'd suggest grabbing either one that comes available, as they're a little hard to come by.

If the price was right ,I would pick up that Sp101 Weigard special ,He does nice work and they usually dont pop up used.:)

...I've got an SP-101 that was customized by Jack Weigand...has his "Tame the Beast" package...it has the BEST DA triggerstroke of ANY SP I've EVER played with...I'd certainly be inclined to buy another if one came along...now, for the "Funny Part"...I purchased my SP-101 used...already had Weigand's work done to it...I STILL don't know why anyone would PORT an SP-101 in .32 Mag, but it IS a neat lil' gun...FWIW....mikey357

I got my Weigland "Tame the Beast" conversion of the SP101 .357 from a local gunshop. It was part of a limited run of these fine revolvers done for Davidson's. Got a real deal on it to. My main mistake was to let my wife shoot it. Now she swears I gave it to her.
The porting really helps on shooting doubles and recovering the sight picture after firing. Be selective of your ammo and try for a low flash powder type. Otherwise shooting in low light will produce quite a fireball on top of the barrel.

I have four of the Weigand SP-101's with the Tame the Beast package, three of which have been ported. To say I like his work is an understatement. These make great concealed-carry revolvers.

I have an SP101, and would love to shoot his version side by side and compare..

Can someone list the things that are done to it besides the porting in the Tame the Beast package?

Hybra-porting of barrel

smoothed and lightened action

trigger polished and radiused

hammer bobbed and cut even with frame

DAO

all pins polished

chambers camfered
