well..had 15 bucks burning a hole in my pocket so out I went and bought some hogue wrap around grips for my comp. slabside.it gets interesting when the grips were very tight and trying to tighten them down literaly stripped those grip screws...all 4 of them.now holding a gun without any grips.
my question is this; is there a place that sells stainless steel grip screws that tighten via allen wrench or regular slotted screw driver?
the grips are nice and wondering if anybody else did this?

Did you strip the threads or the heads?

I've seen allen head replacement screws in several of Brownell's catalogs.

I got a set of Allen head replacement Ruger screws from www.brownells.com Mine are blue, but you can call to see if they have stainless. If not, you could always polish off the blue.

Maybe I can be of some help . I bought Houge wrap arounds for my MKII too . The grips are tight (better tight than loose) so I screwed one side in and then strecthed the grip around to the other side and while keeping tension on the grip so the screw holes lined up and put the other 2 screws in , a little tricky maybe but not really a problem . To answear your question , yes Houge sells S/S steel allen head screws for that grip but they're not cheap (but they look really cool) , I paid $9.00 for mine . Midway might have them too or you can go to Houge's website to find them . Be careful installing them because you can strip them too . (don't ask me how I know that)

I ended up with stripped threads in the frame of my @#$%^&*! Ruger Mark II, too. My gunsmith drilled and tapped them for a larger size, and modified the match stocks. I'd guess Ruger is using pot metal for the frames.

Long story short: I'll never buy another Ruger anything.

frame threads are ok..just went through 4 more grip screws again, very easy to strip them with these grips.good news?yup, finally went back and the smith had just 4 left, got em and followed the above reply.theyre in tight now but geesh, hogue should include some grip screws for people like myself that never ever bother reading the instructions:D

took the scope base off, lost those tiny filler screws down the couch somewhere or their in the penny jar,who knows....hey..the filler screws on a 10/22 scope base fit.ruger use the same filler screws on all their rimfires?

Wonder if you guys have a bad run of guns or something? I've had my grips off my gov't slabside many many times and never had a problem with them being overly tight initially and haven't stripped them.

I just detail stripped the gun last weekend to install an extended slide release, and other that an unexpected 'sproing! Crap, where'd that go?' moment, not a lick of trouble from it.

I'm actually looking forward to installing the volquartsen trigger and sear/hammer set and the Ranch Products mag release soon.

Small screws deserve a light touch and a dab of blue locktite to keep them secure. We're not torquing Chevy head bolts here.

never had a problem either until I added these snug wrap around finger groove grips.I put them in at an angle hoping(and failing) to get them started but alas..bye bye theads so I did finally figure it out thanks to the above reply.the regular walnut panels are nice but that rubber gives me a better grip it seems.

an extended slide release?sounds like a good idea,am looking into that.thanks
