Hello all,
I have a buddy with a Ruskie SKS but is having a hard time finding the right stripper clips for it. It's a 1950 model if that makes any difference.

Where should he look? Anyone here have some to part with?

Thanks in advance!

Im not sure what the panic has done.... I used to get them on ammo. Aim surplus had some a year ago +\- but I am 110% confident they dont now.

You may find some stripper clips at ... never mind. Was going to steer you to liberty tree collectors, they had them like everyone else...sold out.

Ok, I'm hoping to find out if Russian SKS's require fancy stripper clips, because my buddy is getting irritated that the standard ones don't work for him.

I don't know if it makes any difference but his is a Tula 1950 model.
Thanks!

I am familiar with Chinese SKS, and somewhat Russian SKS's. I think the stripper clip is the same. As many countries that made & used the SKS as there were.....I have only seen the one design.

Interesting topic.... Anyone know of SKS stripper clip changes between communist countries?

I don't worry about the source of stripper clips for my SKS (yugoslavian)

You find them sometimes as surplus, sometimes they're rough. There isn't a "stripper clip store", they just turn up at shows or surplus shops. My best ones are a glossy black finish, I think I found them in the local wannabe army surplus store for under 50 cents each.

If your friend has some, and they don't work, something isn't right. Either he's doing it wrong or has strippers for something else.

If you can find Yugoslavian ammo with strippers, those could work. Check ebay.com or amazon.com

Centerfiresystems might have SKS strippers for sale.

The same stripper clips work in my Yugo and my Norinco. I'd be very surprised if the Russian SKS used a different design since the Norinco especially copied their design directly from the Russian design and even used the same equipment to manufacture their rifles for a long time.

Has your friend been able to use stripper clips on any other SKS? It may help to review just how they work as others have suggested. He may want to watch this video for example:

I have Chinese clips that I used to buy loaded with Chinese ammunition, none have ever worked in my Chinese SKS.
Never been able to figure out why or what I do wrong, they just don't feed the rounds into the magazine, always bind up. I can sympathize with your buddy. :)

Yup, the strippers for my Norinco SKS work fine in a buddy's Russian SKS. I'd suggest reviewing his technique, it's likely something he's doing wrong.

I've never had any luck with commercial stripper clips, even ones that some people say will work. They're too wide at the sides and the rounds wobble out of them. Military is the way to go, and any will work.

Ok, the difference he's experiencing is that the standard stripper clips simply do not fit in the cutout in the bolt carrier designed to hold the clip in place for loading rounds into the mag. It's hard to imagine this is simply user error.

Again, the bolt carrier appears to be designed for a different (narrower) stripper clip. Thanks!

While they should all be the same I have seen various deviations between the bolts and the width of clips. So while one clip should fit all that is not always the case.

His best bet would likely be to keep trying until he finds a lot that fits and functions. It's a hit skip affair.

I have heard lots of complaints about various clips but they seem to not work in all rifles if they don't work in one. That's the impression I got anyway. I thought since he was having trouble with the Russian SKS specifically that the problem might be technique. But I sure don't know that.

either the clips are something other than SKS clips or the slot for them is out of specification

Common problem with many stripper clips using steel case cartridges is the inside of track just needs a light lubing.

Seems there may be more to this than I thought; perhaps it's a good question.

I can attest that the cutout in the bolt carrier is much too small to fit any of the stripper clips that I have used in my Yugo M59. It's simply much too small to be aided by some lube or better technique.

I thought I had heard of strictly Russian stripper clips but perhaps not...

Many of the reproduction strippers
are to wide at the ends. It's not a
carrier problem, don't file the guides.
Look on eBay for the Yugo strippers
that came with the M-67 ammo.

My experience is based upon the Eastern Bloc strippers that came with ammo attached in spam cans. I have not used any aftermarket stripper clips but the ones I have fit the Yugo's, Chinese, and Russian SKS's I have. Maybe we should be calling them "magazine ammunition clips" so big brother will know what we are talking about.
