A friend gave me some 45 acp S&B deprimed and cleaned brass.
On running through my Dillon SDB, I found I could barely prime them with CCI 300 primers!
And when I did finally get the primer flush with base it was very flattened like over pressurization!
I just stopped and put them aside!
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Thanks

I load them with Federal, S&B and MagTech primers in 9x19, .38 Special and a couple of other calibers. They can be snug, but I count that as a good thing. Often, when CCI primers won't fit, a slightly softer primer will seat just fine.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I may try my go to primer- federal

It definitely has the tightest pockets I've seen. S&B primers are small also. Try matching them, or revive the pay it forward thread. I'm sure someone out there would love them.

I had the same issue with S&B 38 Brass...super tight primer pocket. I bought a took to ream out the pocket and with some elbow grease, they're good to go.

I just primed up a bunch of 9mm yesterday and didn't have an issue. I sort cases and S&B are among them. I'll pull some later and prime them alone and see, but Ive been reloading the same cases 6 other times, would have noticed. Im using an RCBS bench primer.

Large Pistol primer.

Small Pistol primer pocket?
Thanks wronghanded for making me see my incorrect post of 9mm vs 45acp!

And no I’m not trying to put LPP in a SPP hole.

The dust has not settled on this foopa yet as old blind squirrel can see!!!!!!

Come on guys you can slam me better than that!!!!!!!!

You're not the only one that has had trouble with S&B. I have too. Some are tighter than others. If the primer will seat I load it and if it don't I scrap it. I do a lot of primer pocket work on rifle cases but not on 9mm.

Absolutely. In 9mm anyhow. So I dont use that headstamp anymore. Plenty of other cases out there to use.

The ones that I did load though functioned just fine, even with that slightly squished cup.

Most of the S&B brass in 38 Spl. I have has barely any chamfer at the primer pocket mouth. That causes the primers to scrape the pocket wall while seating. But I have other cartridge casings (380 Auto to name one) that I haven't had any problems with seating. At least that has been my experience.

i don't mind the small primer pockets on the s&b brass. the thing i have had from them on 7 and 8mm mauser was the cut for the rims were not to spec, they won't fit in a shell holder.

It just so happens I'm in the middle of .45 testing and have used S&B brass with CCI 300 LPP. This is on a Hornady LNL, and I don't feel any difference on the de-prime or prime step as compared to other HS (Win, Fed, RP). Primers sit flush or slightly below.

I've been hand de-priming my 38 brass and I can say without a doubt, de-priming the S&B brass is a notable difference in the pressure required. Every now and then I'll mutter a "Holy cow" when one doesn't want to pop and then shoots loose.

S&B have tighter primer pockets for sure and the SD doesn’t have the best leverage to seat primers.

Over 30 years ago I developed a habit at the top of the stroke of palming the ball and wrapping two fingers around the blast shield and squeezing the primers into the pocket. Better feel for me.

FWIW some of the 9mm S&B “brass” is brass plated steel cases.
