S&W 57. Should I shoot it, or is it a collectors item?

57

I have a 4 and a 6 inch, can't find the 8 3/8".
Love the 57.
It finally happened, the 4 inch is a P&R nickel plated TH TT. Freind of mine gave it to me. Thought that just happened to others.
He fired 18 rounds through it and put it in his safe.
Made me happy!!

Took it out and shot today. -22 degrees this afternoon, so it was a short lived trip. Shoots very well. Thanks for all the input. Anybody have any pet loads for the 41?

Ask about that in the Reloading section - you will find some .41 fans there with pet loads. You will also find lots of 57 fans at the smith-wessonforum.com. There is a reloading forum there, also, you can inquire within.

I load quite a bit for the .41 mag, my favorite "recipe" is 21.0 grs of W296 with any 210 gr jacketed bullet (standard Win LP primer) I can't honestly say it's my pet load as I doubt he'd appreciate me shooting him with it.

SSSHHH.....

41 mag is a junk caliber. Get rid of it.:D

If you want low volume VERY clean and accurate loads, try working with the Hornady XTP and Vit N110 powder in starline cases. Should work very well, though the vit powder is a bit spendy, it's worth it for "serious use" ammo.

Depends.

If you're going to keep it until you die, may as well go ahead and shoot it. Let your kids take the hit of diminution of value from you shooting it.

If you think you might re-sell, don't.
