Here lately, I've had a big urge to go back to revolvers, S&W in particular. A few weeks ago I brought home a model 627, Performance Center, 8 round .357 snubbie. Today, I went totally the other direction with this 638.



Several more I want.

Can't beat a J-Frame for pocket carry. I carry a 442 in my pocket. I was carrying a second Snub AIWB but lately switched to my 7 shot 4" 357 for AIWB.

Great choice! I picked up a Model 638 a few years ago as a lighter weight alternative to my Model 649 in the CCW rotation.

I really like the 638. While you are reholstering, you can place your thumb on the "hammer." I just like the extra peace of mind while reholstering.

Thank you for the compliment but it's the camera that deserves all of the credit. I just like to play around with the staging and the lighting.

Indeed, I think that is the most important part to having any gun: being well versed in how to use it and being accurate enough to make it count when it matters the most.

I like my 638. I don't carry it anymore, but I simply can't part with it because its a great shooter. The sights are perfect at 10 yards. Recoil is stout because of the small grip, and light weight. Its surprising how small it really is, when compared to my other snubs.

A word of caution. Check speedloader clearance with the factory grip. It will lock up an HKS speedloader tight, and you will have a hard time freeing the speedloader. I had to drastically relieve the grip to get adequate clearance. I'm surprised S&W doesn't make a change to the grip for that reason.

This is why I chose to carry speed strips for my 637. I've always liked the HKS speedloaders, but there's just not enough room to use them with confidence on these little revolvers.

I've seen, but never have used a speed strip. I have numerous revolvers, but only one other for CCW and I use moon clips for it. How do you uses speed strips. How fast is it?

Without question one of the finest CCW tools ever made. I've toted one now for about 35 years. Wonder why I have other pocket guns sometimes...

Speed strips pretty fast with practice. Carry 3 along with gun.

Good choice - I went with the same. Seems like best advantages of both the 637 and 642, if not quite as pretty.

Excellent choice. I've had one for a couple years now. I put a hogue monogrip on it and use safariland speedloaders which both work extremely well for me. I'm always impressed with how well the pistol shoots. Just have to remember to have a firm grip on it being so light but the recoil doesn't bother me.

The shrouded hammer is a great feature.
