I have a S&W 638 and today I was changing out the factory rubber grips and installing some Pachmayr compac grips. While the grips were off, I noticed that there were chips in the frame under the grip. The gun still functions great and I only noticed this today. Is this normal with these airweights or should I get it checked out? I live in Florida and carry this revolver in the waistband, it gets real hot here and there is no escaping the sweat. I wanted to know, has anyone else experience this problem? I posted a pic it's not great, but it will show you where the chipping is located.

The anodizing and/or clearcoat finish is clearly compromised.

It won't get any better in your waistband I betcha!

Call S&W Customer Service and talk to them about it.
They will probably send you a call tag to send it back for refinishing under warranty.

How long does S&W honor such warranty?
My S&W 637 has its finish peeling and discolored. I too live in
Florida but I use a pocket holster or an IWB holster.
TIA

I will definitely give them a call about it. I picked this Airweight up in a trade so I don't know if they will honor their warranty. Another thing is that this is my only handgun for summer carry and I would hate to go without a edc gun for even a day, the M&P and the SR9 are way too big for t shirt weather. I don't care about the finish too much, as long as it doesn't effect the function, reliability, and longevity of the gun. Will this peeling have any serious affect on the gun or should I just continue carrying it and not worry about the finish so much? It is a tool you know. I was thinking about trading it for a steel frame revolver, I don't know.
