I just bought a LNIB 66-2 on gunbroker. I should be able to pick it up
Monday. Would someone do me a favor and look up it’s DOB in the meantime? The serial number is 27K19XX. I’ve already bought some really nice Herrett Custom Coco Bolo grips from CDNN for $29. Thanks.

My book places the date of manufacturer at 1978 or so. Awesome gun, and those Herrets will look great on it (I've got a couple of pairs myself).

I've read 66-2s didn't start until 1982. Maybe the frame was made and numbered before the gun was assembled. Four years seems like a long time for the frame to sit in parts though.

Possibly. Are you sure the first three digits of the serial number weren't "27X"? That would place production in 1983.

No but it could be 127K19xx. If it is the "1" is very faint and far front of the rest of the numbers.

Aha! That gets us to 1982. If, when you get the gun home, you find the serial number really does start with "27" then it's just another example of how S&W never throws anything away.
