I just bought a used 9mm S&W model 6946. I really like it, it seems like a very nice, accurate gun. I got it with the box and owner's manual, but only one 10rd mag. Looking up info on it, I saw a comment on one site that said I could use the 59 series mags with it. Is that right? I see 59 series mags for sale lots of places, but rarely ever a 69 series.
Also, are there other grips out there for it, other then the black plastic ones it came with?
TIA.

A 59 series magazine will fit and function just fine but will stick out from the grip about half an inch.

I got one in early 2008 and also had difficulty finding 12-round magazines from the LGS or online vendors. I wound up getting one 10-round from a Sportsmans Warehouse, one 12-round from S&W directly (for $41) and finally two more 12-rounders from a gun show vendor ($28 each).

Congratulations. I've never owned a 6946, but have handled one and my 5946 is one of my favorites. Smith did a fantastic job in providing a DAO trigger that while around 12lbs is very short, smooth, and with a quick reset. A good gunsmith can make them very nice indeed, but they were some of the best DAOs out of the box. Shoot it and enjoy.

CDNN occasionally has used factory 12rd magazines on sale for the 69xx series - that's where I got mine.

You can also get filler pieces for a 59xx series mag to fit in the 69xx series guns. I think they are on the S&W website and can also be purchased from aftermarket sources.
