An excellent find. While the 4" has more "cachet", perhaps easier to holster the 6" does more justice to the .357. And firing 38WCs is like firing a 22.

Honestly, Im a little surprised S&W didnt go with fixed sights on the M28 (as with the 58), woulda been cheaper and less likely to get knocked outta whack. Would have provided a little more value to the 27 as well, to justify the higher cost.

Looks-wise its a toss up, I probably find the fixed-sight Smiths a bit more streamlined and attractive, but all are good looking guns.

S&W did offer a fixed sighted revolver chambered for the 357 S&W Magnum, the Model 520. It was a special run done for the New York State Police. They are occasionally seen for sale.

In the N frame, the fixed sighted revolvers were the work horses! Everything you needed and not much else.

Here are my two Model 22-4 revolvers, chambered for the 45 ACP but look-a-likes for the Model 520. Similar to the Model 58 but the Model 22-4 and Model 520 have the reinforced ejector lug.

Ill admit, never heard of the M520 before- a very handsome revolver indeed!

My very first handgun was an L-frame, fixed sight M681 .357. Didnt know at the time how rare they were. Had to sell it during the Great R to feed the kids, but I still miss that gun- one of the best looking wheel guns ever, IMO.

My first Smith&Wesson was my Model 18 .22 LR acquired in 1983; my second was it’s big brother, Model 15 .38 Special, about 1995. This Model 28-2 may be the last in my S&W inventory.

Maybe.

No, I’m not going to tell how many.
