A shooting bud had this 44 Russian S&W Top Break at the Range. According to him, it was made in 1896, is a target model with non rebounding hammer. Apparently standard No 3's had a rebounding hammer, target shooters thought that was bad for target grade accuracy. Roy Jinks told him that the Diamonds on the cylinder and frame identify the reblue as a factory refinish.
The rear sight is adjustable for windage with the two screws, under the latch is a elevation adjustment screw.
I got to shoot it, the trigger is fantastic, and I was able to hit my 12” gong offhand at 65 yards. That is good enough for me.
The load was a light load of Unique with a Lead bullet. I assume it was a 246 grain.
Bud got this in 1983, before they became unaffordable.
