Has anybody taken a rifle class with a Saiga 308? Are there any results to report?

I love mine but truthfully, other than dispatching a deer, which it worked fine for, some prairie dogs, and lots of targets I haven't really run it through anything challenging.

So has anybody gone through a rifle class? Did it hold it's own? Where you laughed out of the place? Did it break down?....

What kind of class? I am going to an appleseed training later this month and most of the shooting they recommend a 22. I am going out today and getting a ruger 10/22. For the optional longer range shooting I am taking my saiga 7.62x39 with a kobra red dot. I will save enough in ammo to almost pay for the 22.

Your saiga is not going to 'break down'. Will some other 308s be more accurate? For sure but yours will do a respectable showing. Any place you show anything you will run across guys whose stuff is the be all end all and snobbish. So I drive a mustang and not a ferrari.

The Saiga .308s are amazing rifles. It wont "break down". It's an AK, and a damned good one at that. It's got some very nice accuracy to boot. You will definantly be fine.

For a high volume class, you're definitely going to need a handful of mags, and 20s would be much better than 8s.

Get to one of the many Texas Appleseeds and see how she runs...

You will shake out your rifle with a 400 round weekend if you choose to use your Saiga for the entire course. If not, you will still be able to better judge the accuracy that you are capable of with it. And at Davilla, you will have the opportunity to run it out to 500 yards, just to see if it will handle it ;)
