Saiga Conversions

Everyone acts like they have converted their Saiga back into being an AK but they still have those STUPID handguards

I don't find them stupid. They offer a lot more hand positions than the short, 'traditional' version and I happen to think it's a lot more comfortable to hold. Probably one reason why you see so many left like that, perhaps with some holes drilled for effect.

The conversion is completely possible, its that you gotta get the lower handguard retainer and a modified gas tube. I got both parts for my .308 from Dinzag arms.

Hey if anyone has the stock Saiga Sporter AK upper handguard, the metal cover over the gas tube, left over from a conversion, I dinged mine up like a doofus and would be happy to give you a few $$ for a fresh one, message me or send me an email throught this site!

This one is NOT a Dinzag retainer and I did not need to remove the fsb or gb.

The cross bolt and barrel notch mating prevents the retainer from shifting exactly the same way
a standard AK retainer crossbolt and barrel notch work.

I don't like the stock handguard either. I used Dinzag's bolt on retainer. It has held up well. Is it as good as an actual press on retainer? Doubt it, but I am not too rough on it either. You can use almost any gas tube also, you don't have to get the one in the link.

Here is mine. The Dragunov is a friend's.


BTW: Rail Driver, I have never seen an AK variant with 1911 style grip. The Shotty grip is especially cool.
