Saturn Powder Funnels

:D:D
While they are very nicely made, I am sad to say I do not like the Area 14 funnel/funnel heads. The inner diameter of the "funnel head" is larger than needed, and the case doesn't go very far up into it either, which lets the funnel flop side to side more than I can live with.

Very disappointing. My gut told me to order the Precision Hardcore funnel in the first place, but I cheaped out and bought the Satern, should have gone with my gut.

I don't usually send stuff back (Can't remember when) simply because I do not like it, after all, there is no defect, it is actually very well executed, but at this price point, it sure is tempting. I'll be using my little patched up Satern.
I’m laughing with ya not at ya”:D

Know what? You don't need the fancy knurling. Looks to me like you don't need to buy anything......you have a drill press & lathe, which is more than I have.....just get busy! :)
.
If my resin doesn't work out I will use my drill press on brass.....but I have the pouring resin and want to try it. Would be faster, less effort. Less useful? Maybe, we will see.

@Walkalong

As I said in an earlier post, the dudes at Area 419 are good folks. Send them back and they will make it right and probably appreciate your feedback

Well, IMHO, they could certainly improve the usability for picky folks like me. The funnel heads sure have room to go deeper with the hole for the neck, and that would help even if they did not tighten up the fit to the neck. The Satern does a better job of both of these, they just need better quality. The Area 419 products have quality down pat, they need a better design/dimensions. Also the funnel it self should be thinner for less weight up top.

Quality/machine work? Great.
Design? Could use tweaking.
Will it work? Yes.
Will the flop/loose fit bother me? You bet.
Is that my issue? lol.....maybe. :)

jmorris: you're looking for a new business model, right?

If you want one that fits perfect you can get Dillon’s rifle funnel for the specific round.

Actually jmorris ...... I meant you are most likely the one who could turn these (since the maker isn't interested):

into a business.
Those adaptors are the holy grail....and the retired maker was only interested in making one set (I can relate to that).

I think I'm going to buy the Lyman set. For what I need they will work.....and if you or somebody start to make deep throat adapters for it, I will buy those too.....for when I decide to get into long range.....

Rule3......you will be assimilated!

Obviously I survived this morning's fun....and I'm going to try the resin idea....just for fun.....still going to order the Lyman.....and who knows maybe both can come together....unless jmorris starts making the above. ;)

I think you will like that set. And if you want, I can send you the model files for the adapters for 223 and 308 and you can print your own adapter to fit.

I don't have access to a 3d printer, so moot. However, you could stick them in THR's resources. I've done that on other things and it makes them available to anyone here.

For example, 34 people have downloaded my bench plans for a cheap no flex bench from resources....neat feature of this site......check it out. If I ever go ahead and get a 3d printer......;)

Honestly, I never looked in the resources section until now... but just uploaded it. If anyone prints it, let me know how it turns out :D

Cool! I downloaded and looked at the files.....looks like they should work. Maybe Jmorris will print them and try them out. I've not ordered the funnel yet.....and a 3d printer? .... maybe for Christmas. :)

I wonder which of the types of plastic used by 3d printers resist static best?

That's the great thing about the Lyman set. If I did the design of the adapter correctly, powder never touch the plastic part. The case mouth should bottom out at the Lyman aluminum insert. If the case is trimmed too short, it is possible to have a gap....but that's only if the case is trimmed below the min spec.
