Well, I went to the range this morning and had an interesting time. I was minding my own business when a lady comes up and occupies the range beside me. Now, this wasn't just any young lady. She looked like a supermodel and was wearing an undershirt with cleavage and the whole nine yards. She took out a 9mm and started firing - she was a relative newbie. I kept firing at my target. Meanwhile, like every guy in the range comes over to help!! They let her try their handguns, talk, and help her with shooting. I keep shooting, minding my own business. When she gets ready to leave she turns to me (I was filling a speedloader) and says, "Boy, everybody is so nice and helpful here." I just replied, "Yes, they are." I was thinking, "yeah, that's because 'ya got big [bleep]!" Has anybody here seen the movie Liar, Liar. It was just like the elevator scene except I didn't blurt it out loud. :D

You should have shown her how to "hold the gun".

When I was in High School I shot in an NRA Rimfire Bullseye league. I enjoyed brining hot looking teenage girls there to watch the old guys who hang out at the range get excited. I couldn't contribute with my experience, and I felt like contributing in some way.

How many of us would have noticed the caliber of her gun? The OP has incredible self restraint.

And....?

People often dress and make an effort to be attractive to others.

The key word here is "ATTRACT."

Sounds like she accomplished that goal and wasn't offended by the attention.

Hardly anything new, nor it is anything to be ashamed of by those guys or appauled at by observers.

I see this all the time at the range here in College Station.

Just one more reason to go to A&M. Hot girls who can shoot.

Hot girl who is a gun enthusiast.

Why wouldn't you go up and talk to her, that sounds like a dream opportunity. Ya gotta give yourself a chance there, if your single anyway.

Grizfire,

I guess one answer might be each individual's definition of what is "hot". I do not know the girl in question and do not wish to be unfair to anyone but I have met my share of physically attractive females that know they are physically attractive and in various ways learn to capitalize on the reactions of young men to that simple fact.

In the instance of a young lady that overtly manipulates the fact to her advantage, I would find that characteristic unattractive. Also, I am somehow disappointed in my fellow man that the inference could be drawn that a less superficially attractive woman would merit less helpful attention.

We all have feet of clay and I don't want to swim upstream of human nature, but can't we just get a grip and be a little less shallow?

As far as I'm concerned, if I am not dating her, she's no different then an old mountain man with a wizard beard.

Since I am not dating, that makes all women regardless how pretty they are.

Since most of the guys there were probably either dating or married, and surely not planning to take her home, it just goes to show what peoples wits are like and a reinforcement of my sense of despair about mans future.

It's a good thing I wasn't there. I WOULD have said out loud what you were thinking, though I would have put it nicely. Something like: "I think it's because of how attractive you look, though gun people tend to be pretty cool either way."

When I know women who I think are attractive, I usually at some point let them know that they are eye candy and they seam very comfortable with that, more comfortable then if I didn't say a word.

Well, kind of reminds me of my own similar experience. I was shooting with my brother and this beautiful blond girl in nice low rise jeans and nice pink shirt settles in the lane next to us. She has a plain old black dosko case and HUGE pink purse/handbag. She casually sets up a target and pulls out a M4 with a eotech on top. She reaches into her purse, digs around her other girly things and pulls out her magazines and ammo :D

The girl could shoot and her father was a marine.....maybe I should have tried getting her number too :banghead:

Oogling and pawing is not seemly. I understand some ranges are still "man turf" and the older gentlemen get goofy when a woman shows up. The ones I go to have a good mix of people so it's less of an issue. You got to meet one of our female shooters recently. Name of Sarah. She comes from a gun culture where a firearm is a tool, not a symbol for your privies.

I do the same thing. Just go about my business, unless she asks for help. I find that if I volunteer, I trip too much on my tongue

That or you find yourself being a pond. Where you cant get any shooting done because you have to help out someone else. I dont mind helping out people at the range. I hate it when you see someone like that. Where they go to the range knowing all the guys will do what ever it takes to help her. Last time i had someone next to me like that. i told her straight off to ask the RO for help. Then i got the RO to help her out. So i did not loose any Range time.

You know, it would be great if people would remember where they are before they post - this is THR, and it is supposed to be a family-friendly/kid-friendly site. I'm not a parent (yet), but I know that if I were one, I'd rather not have to explain to my kid what "sausage fest" meant because he/she happened to read it while we were perusing THR.

It's not really that hard - just take a little time and think "Is this something I'd want my (kid, niece, nephew, grandkids) reading?" If not, perhaps try to put it another way.

^^^^what he said^^^^

In summary...there was a woman at the range. Whoop dee doo.

We are trying our best not to chase off what few female members we have.

This isn't a locker room, guys. There are places where this type of conversation is appropriate. This isn't one of them.
