I have a model 16 in 308 and am unable to get the fired cases to eject properly. If I cycle the rounds prior to firing they eject ok (it clears but not by much). Once cartridge is fired, they extract, but they fail to eject (about 98% of the time). I also notice two parallel scratches on the lower side of the case separated by approx 40 deg going the entire length of the cartridge. They are not gouges, but scratches.

I have about 60 rounds fired and I bought it new. These are all reloads of various powders and projectiles.

Any ideas?

My BVSS. 308 DID the same thing. Did u get it used? My short mags don't seem to have a problem. I just figure its a wear and tear problem. I'd call savage on an issue with the extractor. Bolt assemblies aren't very expensive either.

Look at the bolt face and make sure the ejector button is working. They can often become stuck by a little dirt, gummed up with gun oil or other foreign material. Clean it and make sure the spring will let it move.

Are there scratches on the cases that you eject without firing. Im sorry that was worded funny. Does the gun scratch all of the brass or only fired brass. Since you got it new I think id let Savage take a look at it. You may not want to disclose the use of reloads or they may choose to unjustly place the blame on you. I dont know if they have a history of this but some manufacturers will try to weasle out if they see a chance to play the blame game.

I did get this new. I looked at the ejector and placed a cartridge under the extractor and then pressed it against the bolt face. There was a lot of tension there and a good rebound. As far as reloads go, they told me to try both and see if one worked better then the other. The scratches were on both fired or non-fired cartridges. I cycled them from the mag in the chamber and then tried to eject the brass. If they are not fired, they will eject but barely clear the receiver. If I fire a round and try to eject it, they just fall into the receiver. I have even cycled unloaded ammo and dummy rounds with the same marks.

I did tear apart the entire bolt and removed the extractor. Still the same results.

Not that I can tell. It does not feel like a case is sticking or anything. They are easy to extract, just not eject.
