I just bought a Savage 99C and want to put a Leupold M8 4x on it. I want a two piece mounts. Screw spacing on rear and front is .5in

Having a hard time find specifics on mounts. Hoping to install leupold mounts. Any wisdom would be appreciated.

The only scope mounts I’m aware of for Savage Model 99’s are Leupold 1 Piece Standard and Weaver two piece.

This is off-topic somewhat but I feel it’s a good place to share it. During the short period I sold guns and optics a gentleman came in the store looking for scope mounts for a Savage 99. As usual he was sent to me and I informed him that my store had the largest inventory of scope mounts in DFW(very true) and we didn’t carry them. It would have to be an internet purchase if he wanted. He was very courteous and asked me to help him. Took him to a computer on the sales floor and started looking. While I was looking on the internet I asked the gentleman if his 99 was a 250-3000 because it is on my bucket list. He responded that it was a .308 Winchester owned by his great grandfather, purchased in 1911 and everything was original. In retrospect I should of kept my mouth shut but didn’t. After asking again and being informed his 99 was 100% original and made in 1911, I informed him as politely as I could that since the .308 Winchester cartridge wasn’t invented until the 1950’s his rifle either wasn’t 100% original or was made much later than 1911. He went postal and started screaming that I was a liar and didn’t know what I was talking about. He demanded to talk to a manager and once one was summoned he demanded that I be fired. The manager apologized, said I would be disciplined, gave the guy a gift card all while easing the man toward the store exit. My punishment was being told to immediately hide if I ever saw the guy in the store again.

And thats what you get for being right :p

Cant really help with mount info, the only one ive ever handled personally that wore a scope was a .284 with I THINK the leupold mount on it. It at the very least looked like leupold mount, cant examine that one anymore.

I have the weaver 2 piece bases on mine. Very solid setup. This is the most common drilling pattern for 99s, and the Leopold base also uses similar pattern. You'll also run across ironsighter see through mounts on the used market. I would not recommend, very high scope mounting with those. The weaver bases allow for a very low mount as in the picture above, and are also compatible with a weaver tip off ring set which just seems right on a 99
