Just purchased a Savage Axis in 243 off of Gunbroker for $210.00 for one of my daughters to use. They both have been using a Ruger M77 Compact in 223 caliber, but the older of the two (13) should be able to handle a 243 with no problem now. The priced seemed good, but after doing a little research I'm not so sure about the purchase now. As long as it will shoot decent groups at a 100 yards I'm fine with the gun. Do any of you have any experience with this rifle. Your thoughts and opinions (good or bad) would be much appreciated. I've always bought Ruger and Remington rifles, but a couple of my friends have some Savage rifles that are tack drivers, hope this rifle shoots. Cross my fingers. Thanks again.

I have a friend that has a couple of those Axis rifles formerly the Edge. They shoot ok the triggers are not good but they shoot fine. my Savages shoot as good as my Remingtons,Rugers,CZ,Winchester so the Axis should be fine for a deer rifle.

I am a dealer, and the Axis is what I usually reccomend for an entry level deer rifle. The triggers are so-so, but every one I have seen has been a very good shooter. Plus should the need ever arise, Savage customer service is excellent.

I just bought that rifle about 2 weeks ago in a 223. I have better guns in the cabinet but for the bang for the buck, I believe it stands up pretty good. I believe you bought it right. Not a steel nor a bargain in my opinion.

The trigger like stated above is rough. If you do a Goggle search their is a simple way to improve it. I myself done it then took it to my local gunsmith for approval. He beat the gun up a little, Slammed the bolt and ect and handed it back to me as you good.

When I brought it home with a cheep scope and, 2 boxes of Hornady Superformance Varmint 53 gr. I wasn't impressed with those. 2" group at 100 yards. Then I bought a die and made my own.....Now I'm more than happy with what I bought.
