So I got a model 99c .308 from my grandpa a few years back. I haven’t had any problems until I had a spike elk in the sights and the firing pin wouldn’t set. It seemed like there was dirt inside the action so I decided I would clean up the inside.

I have absolutely no experience in gunsmithing so what I did next was a stupid thing to do, I know. I unscrewed from the side of where the clip was taken out of and while I was trying to watch and see where the pieces would need to be when I was reassembling it but this piece which I believe is the filler block fell out. I have no idea where it goes back in the rifle so I made a guess. I’ve attached photos of the screw I took out, the filler block, what it looks like without the filler block or screw in there, and where I believe the filler block goes as it seems to be the only place it fits. I know, I’m an idiot, but I appreciate any feedback. I couldn’t find any info online.

You might want to find a gunsmith if you are not handy... 99's are like a maddening 3D jigsaw, I've never had my 99F apart, and I probably won't. That being said, there are a number of YouTube videos on it... good luck and let us know how it turns out.
