I saw one at the local gun shop the other day - at a little over $700. Anyone have one or shoot one? I like it except for that weird looking muzzle brake.

Just looking for comments. Seems like a good deal compared to the Ruger scout rifle and I'v always liked Savage.

I had an early one. Good rifle, handy and accurate. I wasnt real hot on the B Square rail, but it worked well.

Mine didnt have a brake, and was a little different than what they look like now. Im assuming that brake comes off and you could mount a suppressor, which would be a plus.

The new rifles do look interesting. Looks like they got a better front sight, and added that third swivel point. Not sure I like the cheek thingie and recoil pad though. The mag on mine didnt extend below the gun either. It would be nice to have the larger capacity option (Im assuming thats a 10 rounder).

That's a good looking rifle, that Model 11. The brake looks like a two-chamber brake and probably works well. But the rifle is heavy... almost 8 lbs when the composite-stocked Ruger weighs just 6.2 lbs.

And that Savage trigger. I suppose some folks like it. I dislike triggers with safeties sticking out of them.

Savage Scout weight

Didn't realize it was that heavy but you'll be glad of the weight when firing it I bet.

I have a couple light weight .30-06 bolt guns - they are not real pleasant to shoot if you are firing more than a couple rounds.
