Hey everyone, I need a little help with my savage sporter 23a. I took it down for cleaning and after cleaning all the parts I went to put it back together and I have run into a snag. The rear magazine catch/ejector part is a strange looking combo part. The hook shaped ejector part fits into the bottom of the chamber and the slotted magazine catch runs down the back side of the magazine well to the trigger plate assembly. It is held in place by the middle stock screw that goes in the trigger plate, into the stock and threw the hole in the spring steel of the part into the receiver. There is a slot on the under side of the trigger plate that I assume the part rides in when assembled correctly. My problem is I cannot get the part to fit into the slot. I can get it assembled by letting the part ride out the magazine well forward of the slot. When assembled this way, everything works but the magazine is difficult to insert or extract. My question is, does anyone know if this part is supposed to ride in that slot or is it completely unrelated to the part? When I bought the rifle it was assembled with the part out of the slot so I don't know if that is correct or if the person who owned the rifle before me couldn't get it back together correctly either. The magazine has always been difficult to insert or extract. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have photos but I can't seem to post them. The files are JPEG and less than 2 mb each but when I upload I get an error message that the files are too large.

I think I have posted pics that large in the past, maybe. But otherwise, if one has a dedicated photo program, they can be compressed, while losing just a little detail. "Corel" works pretty well.
