I am planning on buying the Stevens model 200 in .223 and since its relativly inexpensive I know that it will not come with the things I want namely a good stock, and a quality barrel. So pretty much this is going to be a range/project rifle and things will be done on the basis of money avail.. Now i have heard with the model 200 I can use stocks and barrels that are made for the savage model 10 is this true or false? And if it is false what model of savage do I order to have it work in the stevens 200. And also the barrel removal is it the same as the savages, I understand that they are made from the same company but im asking JIC. And also I understand that it would probably be cheaper to buy a savage out right but I would change the stock on the gun regardless and the only savages I can find/order the dealers want around 5-6 hundred for what i want. And hey DIY is half the fun right.

I am very happy with my .223 Model 200 as is. The stock is comfortable and the barrel is a tack driver. The only thing I changed was to add an E-Z Pull trigger assist. With a Simmon's 44 Magnum scope it is a sub moa rifle.

As for the stock... that depends on whether it's a staggered feed (blind mag attached to the stock) or center feed (blind mag attached to the action). My slightly older Savages with AccuTrigger are staggered, while my slightly new Stevens is centered. I wanted to swap the stocks but can't. Though you can adjust the Stevens trigger, you're better off getting a new Savage with AccuTrigger and AccuStock.

Have no fears about the barrel .They are the same ones used on the more expensive Savage rifels. As for the stock ,it is quite serviceable. If you don't like the grey color ,feel free to paint it in any camo design you want. The only real issue is the trigger, but it can be lightened up considerably. You are buying a very good and accurate rifle than can more than meet your standards , for almost zero additional cash.

The new Savage rifles come out with the accu-stock and a nice trigger. If you are up for adding money to your rifle later on than Stevens might do for you but I think you will look into improvements right away and eventually spend more on Stevens than you would on Savage in first place.
