I may have a chance to be in the Savannah area in about a week so if I can come up with a bit of free time while I'm there I'd like to cruise the LGS scene. Looks like too many potential places to go in the time I'll have so I'll have to focus on just a few. Not looking for Bass Pros and other such places, but the local shops, especially the ones with used guns, equipment, local interest stuff and so on.

What do you recommend?

Used guns, ehhh.....I don’t want to let on what my honey hole is......

Ok it’s Pooler Guns. Lots of consignment items which are always interesting and change often. This is my favorite place. I have bought an u disclosed amount of guns from this guy between the shops he has owned and worked at.

Second favorite place is Dean Forest Guns. It is in the same general vicinity as Pooler Guns. They don’t have a ton of pre owned but enough for me to make regular stops. A nice mix of ARs and everything else. Lots of ammo and reloading components too. Best place for reloading IMO.

My next favorite is Welsh Pawn Shop. Pretty spotty when it comes to my visits to purchases ratio but when I do purchase one it is usually something special. I bought a Speed Six, Marlin Texan with uncommon 18” barrel, Pre lock Model 66 and Model 10 snubbies. They cycle through merchandise splendidly and it is probably the beat place in town to find a used AR. Their marked prices are always high. They will usually drop them 20% before you even ask....but still ask.

Another one not to miss is Ortiz Custom Guns. Too many ARs but there are a bunch of handguns and enough pre-owned fodder to keep me coming back. They have a nice selection of CZs.

Nearby is CRC Guns and Weaponry. Went there once and call me a snob but I am just not interested in TriStar shotguns bottom dollar rifles and handguns. However, this is there specialty and it is working for them. I stopped by once in their early days and was not impressed. More recently I visited their booth at a gun show and was delighted to see some nice used items. A sporterized Krag and a 20ga Saiga. And a clone of the USMC M40 with the apparently legit 10x Unertl scope. They wanted $10k for that.

The closest one to where I live is Thunderbolt Guns. I honestly have not been in there in years for reasons I cannot explain because they have a good reputation.

The Gun Shop was understocked when when I last went there a year ago. My buddy has bought a few guns from them though. Side note: The Gun Shop used to be owned by the owner of Pooler Guns and another fellow who passed away. After the other guys passing there was bad blood between the family and the other co owner and they parted ways. Before that, The Gun Shop used to be my favorite shop.

On Derenne it is. Thanks for the tips!

I've been looking at the map, but it can only tell just so much. Looking forward to Pooler.

Thunderbolt Guns... not a bad selection at times, but it will be hit or miss.

I have been there on several work assignments and didn't research any gun stores while I was there but you need to eat at "The Pirates House" 20 E Broad St, Savannah, GA 31401. Building dates to the 1750's.

Just a few miles up the coast is the "Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum" exit 102 on I-95 if you are interested in such things. I know I really enjoyed it.

Huey's on the River is great for breakfast or lunch (and don't forget to have some beignets!), while the 17Hundred90Inn and Restaurant has outstanding cuisine, ambiance, service and their fair share of ghost stories!
