SB 518 Maryland Castle Doctrine hearing 3/7 1PM

Sponsored by my legislative hero Nancy Jacobs

Folks, this bill needs your support. Its a good thing for Maryland and would give us the same rights that many other states have already provided. In a nutshell it provides you the defendant immunity under certain circumstances particularly if you are forced to use lethal force to protect yourself from an intruder in your home and certain other places like car (in event of carjacking etc).

Synopsis: Providing that a person is justified in using nondeadly force under specified circumstances; providing that a person is justified in using deadly force under specified circumstances; providing that a person who is justified in using force is immune from criminal prosecution and civil action; etc.

Link to complete bill is here: http://mlis.state.md.us/2007RS/bills/sb/sb0518f.pdf

The Judicial Committee phone is currently set to ask you to leave a v/m if you are calling to voice your support/opposition to the bill.

Please take 2 minutes to call them at 410-841-3623 and tell them name/city and that you SUPPORT SB 518

Otherwise here are the e-mail addresses for all of the Judicial Members. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

The least we can do is show our support for Senators Jacobs, Mooney, Simonaire and the others that are putting their necks out to sponsor this bill.

Lets do everything we can to make it happen.

Here's my letter:

Dear Senators

I would like to voice my SUPPORT for SB 518

I don't think there should be much discussion or question that the law abiding citizens should have the right to use appropriate and if necessary lethal force to protect themselves/family/property from an attacker or home invasion without fear of retaliation or prosecution by the state.

Punish the criminal not the law abiding citizen.

Thank you for your time.
