I see that PSA has complete 10 inch uppers for 179. Crazy cheap. I have one I made and got a SBR NFA stamp for it. I bought another one for a back up upper or maybe to make a pistol out of an 80% receiver. What are the laws view on having a second back up 10 barrel for your NFA? I was told when I applied for my SBR stamp to keep them apart in the house. ATF said while waiting for the stamp keep one in the attic and the other in a different part of the house. But now that I have a stamp for one can you have a back up upper for it or do I need to make a pistol out of it to keep it legal?

You may have as many uppers for your SBR lower as you want. They can be in whatever caliber you want. They can be whatever length you want. For my SBR, I've got a .300 blk (what's on the F1), a .22lr, and a 9mm.

General rule of thumb is to never have a collection of parts in one place that can ONLY be used illegally. The foundation for that was established in the 1992 UNITED STATES v. THOMPSON/CENTER ARMS CO. case that also established that an SBR isn't made when one goes from pistol -> rifle -> pistol again.

I wouldn't want to be found driving around with only a <16" upper on a non-NFA lower and a random, not attached stock.

As pdsmith said, as many short barrel uppers you want as long as you have one SBR or pistol lower. There is a list if you do an internet search of all the different caliber uppers people have made for the standard AR15 lower. Pretty sweet. At some point I think I'll one in 5.45x39 (AK74 round), my buddy did one and its pretty neat. 7.62x25 tokarev is 2nd on the list. Just for fun.
